Schule Haus Apartments

Schule Haus Apartments is a four-story, 52 unit affordable housing complex, (49 are one-bedroom, two of which are handicapped units, and three are two-bedroom.) The property is Section 8 designated elderly/disabled housing. Tenants must be over 62 years of age or have a verified disability if under 62. The Schule Haus resides in a quiet residential area. The Senior Center for the community of Jordan is housed within the complex. It is a non-smoking facility, with two designated smoking areas outside.

Location: The Schule Haus occupies the block between Varner, Fourth, West and Third streets in Jordan. It is in a quiet residential neighbor, lined with trees and a relatively flat area, conducive for walking. We are two blocks from Jordan’s beautiful Lagoon Park and waterfalls. The fire department and several churches are within three blocks.

Amenities: Senior Center/community room, community gardens (raised and ground level), washers and dryers on site, smoke detectors, sprinkler system, carbon monoxide detection system, congregate lunch dining on site Monday-Friday at 11:30 a.m., secure entry system with intercom door release, individual heat and cooling controls, air conditioners, on site beauty shop, on site library, craft and puzzle areas, lounge area with community television and computer with internet access, commodity drop site, tub room and outdoor.

Activities: Bingo, Saturday morning coffee and conversation, affordable meals served Monday-Friday at 11:30 a.m., cards in the afternoon, religious services, Bible study, Senior Citizen’s Club meets on site, chair aerobics mornings and afternoons, morning coffee, blood pressures monthly and National Night Out. Many service groups, such as the Scouts, 4-H, school groups, church choirs, visit us often. Senior Club also plans parties and potlucks often.

Public transportation: There is no regularly scheduled public transportation such as light rail or buses, but tenants may schedule pickups for shopping and medical appointments through the Scott County SmartLink Transit.

Nearby: The local post office, grocery store, three banks, public library, convenience store and gas stations, several antique stores, fast food chains, local restaurants, food shelf, doctor and dentist clinics and pharmacy all are in the near vicinity with the furthest being about eight blocks.

Section 8 Income Based Housing. Rent is based on 30% of income for those who qualify.
